The very first festivals in ancient Greece were males worshiping their gods. A popular festival in Greece was the festival called City Dionysia. During this festival men performed songs. The only time plays were ever performed was during this ceremony. During this time period the actors, directors, and dramatists were all one person. After some tine, the only three actors were allowed to perform in each play. Years later, few non-speaking people were allowed to perform on stage. The chorus then evolved to a very large part of Greek Culture. The main Playwrights during this time were, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Euripides, and Sophocles.
