Ancient Greek Olympics
The Olympics first began around 750 B.C. The ancient Greeks created the Olympics because they loved competition especially in sporting events. when the Olympics took place they would pause any war between the city-state.
The Olympics took place in honor of there god Zeus. The only people who could participate was the Greek nationals, and women could not even watch the Olympic events. There were five days that the Olympics took place on. On the first day they sacrificed to the gods, and on the 3rd day they sacrificed 100 oxen in honor of the gods. On the second day there was a foot race which was the most important event. THe wrestling and boxing events were also important events. They also had horse racing and chariot racing. in order to race in these events you have to own a horse and be wealthy.
